Hello – a little update! It has been a wonderfully rich period already and for some reason a lot to do with Mozart…
Back in December I had the opportunity to join the Britten Sinfonia as guest principal clarinet for Mozart’s Messiah: a rarely performed adaptation of Handel’s famous work which Mozart made. A real delight and a learning experience for us clarinettists to be involved in this!
A few weeks later I enjoyed a few days in Prague, where we visited a church which Mozart worked in. It is beautifully ornate, and I could totally imagine Mozart working away upstairs by the organ whilst coming up with cheeky clarinet concerto motifs in his spare time…
Enter February and some interesting workshops via the London Mozart Players: visiting two schools in Hastings to give classes on Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, and of course my trusty basset clarinet came along with me for live demos. Both GCSE classes were lovely!
Finally, last week I performed this concerto with the Alina Orchestra in Milton Keynes. A joyous occasion, with a lovely review – hooray!
The next few months bring exciting projects in Romania, Japan and Dublin – more soon. But meanwhile, happy spring!
