Chethams’ Woodwind Academy Day

A free, one-day event for young woodwind players, aged 9 – 17 (from grade 3 upwards).

Come and join us for a full day of masterclasses, ensemble playing, and lively group discussions, led by a friendly, specialist team of Chetham’s tutors, students, and very special guests.

From 10am – 4pm, the packed day will include classes for each instrument including top tips on solo repertoire, technique, chamber music and the chance to play in massed woodwind choirs.

Suitable for players of the following instruments: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone.

The masterclasses are generously supported by The Haworth Trust.

Tutors:

Helena Mackey –  newly appointed Principal Oboe of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and graduate of the Royal Academy of Music

Nikolai Vestmar Henriques – section leader bassoon with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, previously with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.

Anna Hashimoto – guest principal clarinet with numerous UK orchestras, winner of International Clarinet Competitions in Belgium, Italy and Tokyo, founding member of Atea Quintet.

Luke O’Toole – principal flute of the Orchestra of Opera North, guest principal flute with numerous UK orchestras, recorded for film scores including ‘The Shape of Water’, ‘The Mummy’ (2017).

Jonathan Radford – international concerto, recital and chamber saxophonist, performances at Wigmore Hall and Philharmonie de Paris, prizewinner in the Royal Overseas League and Commonwealth Musician of the Year.
