Hello everyone and happy April! After being more regular with posts in winter, apologies for a bit of silence. This is a bit of a catch-up and update.
Returning to London back in March felt bizarre, but everything went smoothly and I finished the self-isolation in time for a wonderful trio concert at St Mary’s Perivale with Meghan Cassidy on viola and Florian Mitrea on piano. This was a live-streamed performance and can be watched here on YouTube!
I also had a great day in Luton for recording sessions with the Bath Philharmonia – seeing so many fellow musicians after months apart was such a joy 🙂
After that I had a month of intense online work with the brilliant NYO team. Some of the projects were for the clarinets of the orchestra, and some were part of an ‘Inspire’ project held for a wider community of young musicians. In the end I could meet with over 30 young clarinettists across the UK – it truly felt like I was meeting the future generation of clarinettists, and it hugely encouraged me.
Finally, I had my first physical visit to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire this academic year! Hearing the clarinet students in a room, not over zoom, was so refreshing and I even enjoyed hearing the high register of the Eb clarinet, and looking forward to being back for more…
It is still uncertain times but things are looking cautiously optimistic… the concerts page will be getting an update soon… Meanwhile let’s keep enjoying the sunny weather, the local parks, and slowly being able to socialise with other human beings again!
