Freya Waley-Cohen’s music is characterised by contrasts between earthy rhythmic play and fragility, luminous spaces, and a sense of the otherworldly. Many of her recent works play with myths, magic and the occult as lenses through which to look at the contemporary world.
We perform an evening of Freya’s occult-inspired works, including the premiere performance of the complete ‘Spell Book’ – a dramatic song cycle setting spell-poems from Rebecca Tamás’ book ‘WITCH’. An all-female ensemble along with singers Fleur Barron, Katie Bray and Héloïse Werner bring the piece to life.
Poetry, music and witchcraft exist in the space between what we know and what we believe. In Spell Book, all three come together to invite us into a realm where the witch’s voice can reach out and influence the universe.
